What You Need In Motorcycle Trailer Accessories
When you purchase a motorcycle trailer it generally only comes with the trailer as a base and all of the other motorcycle trailer accessories are add ons. Even though they are referred to as accessories you do need some of them in order to attach the trailer to your car and your bike to the trailer. You will need a trailer hitch and hitch accessories to fit your car and trailer. Hitch Classes are from 1 to 5 plus a 5th Wheel or Gooseneck Hitch. Certain class hitches fit on different sized vehicles and have maximum trailer weights and tongue weights. Class 1 fits all vehicles but only has a maximum gross trailer weight of 2,000 lbs whilst the Gooseneck fits pickups only and has a gross trailer weight up to 25,000 lbs. Kendon's Motorcycle trailers have a range of hitches and accessories like their 2" Dual hitch, Stone guard, Hitch-A-Line for easy guiding, a coupler lock, swivel trailer jack and several hitch pins which are all additional costs. Some trailers come with a motorcycle ramp attached but some companies consider it to be an accessory part to a base model. This will be a personal preference depending on the weight of your bike and height of the trailer. Some of the more expensive, mainly enclosed trailers have the option of a motorcycle lift, which for heavier bikes is a huge bonus. Motorcycle Ramps have a massive selection of ramps and ramp kits for most bike and loading situations from the lightweight Big Boy motorcycle ramp MF series to the MC1296 portable suitcase folding ramp. If you have a general flatbed trailer and want to use it as a motorbike trailer then you can buy a motorcycle tie downs which can be attached and removed as required. Along with the tie down you will need a Strap & Ratchet Kit. The tie down is a rail which attaches to the flatbed with a wheel choke to keep the wheels in place whilst the straps and ratchets go over the bike to keep it securely in place. A simple tie down system with front choke is the MCK2 and for the deluxe version the MCK1 has wheel cage and built in straps. If you are traveling long distances or in remote areas a spare trailer tire is a necessity but they are usually sold separately. Kendon sell a 5 bolt 13" rim chrome spare wheel to their Stand Up Trailer at $136.99. Once you get to trailer accessories for an enclosed trailer, it is really limitless and another article in itself. Motorcycle lifts, racks, ramps, fit outs for camping trailers or toy haulers, different quality and size wheels, unlimited interior details like flooring and D-Rings are just the beginning. When looking at motorcycle trailer accessories you need to be clear on what is a necessity and what is optional. Adding up the cost of the accessories and shipping before buying the trailer is always wise if you are on a budget as a few hundred dollars can easily be added on to the base cost to get it in working condition. |
