Motorcycle Haulers And Carriers V Motorcycle Trailers

Motorcycle Haulers

You may be looking at Motorcycle haulers or Carriers over motorcycle transport trailers for 2 main reasons... price and size. Haulers and carriers are definitely cheaper than their trailer counterpart and they are much easier to store, unless you buy a fold up or stand up trailer, but haulers have one major limitation... the size of your car. Most motorcycle haulers can only be used with a class 3 or above, 2 inch hitch which cuts out small, medium and even large cars. You will need an SUV, van or mid size pick up before even looking at the basic hauler or carrier.

And what's the difference between a hauler or a carrier? Nothing except terminology. A Motorcycle Carrier 'hauls' your bike on trips, and a motorcycle hauler 'carries' your bike on your vehicle, they are the same thing so you may need to use both terms when researching options. Another advantage of the hauler over a trailer is weight, they are not nearly as heavy as a trailer so will save you on gas, especially over long distances or lots of trips.

Motorbike haulers start with a basic 1 bike, mainly small dirt bike, option. Discount Ramps and Motorcycle Ramps have the AMC-400 aluminum carrier for motorbikes up to 75" long, up to 5 1/2 inch wide tires and a 400 pound capacity. Some, like the AMC-400, come with bike ramps for loading the bike and then store on the carrier. Discount Ramps have a huge range so you can carry up to 2 bikes, heavy duty sports bikes up to 600 lbs or an atv. For the big boys, and if you happen to have an rv, they have the CruiserLift which is a carrier and a motorcycle lift and has a 1000 lb capacity. Other carrier manufacturers are VersaHaul and Add-A-Ramp who both have single, double and sport carriers with optional ramps and also Motorcycle Carrier.
