Get The Most Out Or Your Motorcycle Trip With A Motorcycle Camper Trailer!

Touring has never been so comfortable. You hit the road doing what you love best, riding your bike for a week or heading down to Sturgis for your annual trip with your mates. You find a perfect spot where you can do a bit of fishing for dinner, pull up, stretch the legs, open the trailer box... and out pops your king size bed, cold beers, fishing rod (back up can of beans), deck chair, portable grill and you're set for the night! Basically cargo trailers can also be tent trailers. Your trailer opens up to a tent but it can also carry all of your motorcycle camping gear, rain gear, clothing, jack, you can also have add ons like a cooler, an awning, table and chairs, spare tire rack, a rack to carry rods, surf boards, kayak... it's endless, especially compared to what you could carry in saddle bags and a back pack.

The motorcycle camper trailer has given so much freedom to riders. Where once you would have to stay at a scummy motel, now you can enjoy the outdoors just like you can on the bike. Camping trailers, like tents, come in all sizes and star value but one major advantage to any tent is the fact that your bed is off the ground so you'll never have a muddy water bed and also that you have a firm level surface for the mattress.

As with any cargo trailer you need to ensure you follow the safety limitations. The trailer shouldn't be any wider than your handlebars or higher than your touring pack. You need good suspension so it doesn't bounce and effect your control of the bike especially when traveling at higher speeds. Weight is the major issue though so choose a quality lightweight trailer, preferable aluminum or fiberglass, and follow the manufacturers weight loading capacity. The average trailer is around 250-300 pounds but it will obviously increase with the size of the tent and optional extras you add. The main factor is to match the size and weight of the trailer to the size of your bike. Also consider what you'll be taking and make sure there is enough storage volume available.

Although most have this as standard, check that your trailer can be used over all types of terrain. There's no point having it if it won't take you down a bumpy dirt path to that perfect camp site. Also ensure that the parts are pretty standard so if you have any problems on the road they are easily accessible. For those critical parts that are not, it might be worth buying them for your kit for any emergency.

For a basic model you are looking from US $3,000 upwards. B&F Specialties have a Lil 'B' which has a full size double bed, dressing area and screens on each wall right up to their premium SE Package with the LE trailer with king size bed, dressing area, awning, table and cooler packages, a screen room, clothes caddie and optional air conditioning duct. Other brands to look at are Wikco, Roadman Campers or Lite Tent Camper.

Whether you get a camper trailer with all of the extras like air conditioning, recreation equipment or luggage rack, spare tire rack, king size tent bed, awnings with screen for additional room, cooler, table and chairs or you stick to basics and just get a tent trailer, you are sure to enjoy the nights as much as you enjoy the ride.
